Mike Holmes’ career at Coastal Carolina is over.
Holmes, a South Carolina transfer who was averaging 14 points and 8.4 rebounds since becoming eligible on Dec. 13, has been kicked off the team by Cliff Ellis following an altercation with a teammate.
Ellis declined to go into detail when reached, stating that it’s an “internal matter.”
However, sources told FOXSports.com that Holmes, who was also booted out of South Carolina last year, was involved in an altercation with the team’s leading scorer, Desmond Holloway.
The Chanticleers are 16-2 overall and 7-0 in Big South play – and the team won all seven games that Holmes played.
The 6-foot-3 Holloway, averaging 18.8 points per game, missed the victory against Winthrop last week and returned to score 15 in a win against Presbyterian on Saturday.
Holloway wore a protective mask on his face in the game as a result from an injury suffered in the altercation with Holmes.
