We’re one step away from the NBA Draft deadline being pushed up to mid-April.

The Division I Legislative Council adopted a proposal on Wednesday that would “require student-athletes interested in testing the waters of the NBA draft to remove their name from consideration before the first day of the spring National Letter of Intent signing period.

The spring National Letter of Intent signing period began today this year.

This deadline has been pushed up (from May 8) due to support from college coaches to know their roster situations as early as possible.

The change, effective beginning next year, is also intended – according to the NCAA – to help players focus on academics in the spring term.

The legislation is not considered final until after the Division 1 Board of Directors’ meeting on April 28 – at which time the board can choose to take a different course of action.
