NORED OUT FOR HORIZON OPENER; MAY MISS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH
Butler’s Ronald Nored won’t play in Wednesday’s Horizon League opener against Loyola (Ill.) and is questionable Saturday against Duke due to a concussion.
Butler coach Brad Stevens confirmed the news to FOXSports.com.
Nored, a key cog in Butler reaching the national title game a year ago, suffered the injury early in the game against Siena last Tuesday when he bumped heads with an opposing player in the opening minute going for a loose ball.
``He’s not going to play Wednesday,” Stevens said ``And it’s undetermined when he’ll be back. He’s day-to-day.”
Stevens said he won’t bring Nored back until he’s clearly 100 percent and that may mean his floor leader sits out Saturday’s rematch of last year’s national championship contest in New Jersey.
``Obviously, he’s a really, really important part of our team,” Steven said. ``But his health is more important and we want to make sure he’s right.”
Butler has gotten off to a 3-2 start with losses coming at Louisville and in a shocker last game against Evansville at home.
Nored didn’t play in the overtime loss to Evansville.
Stevens said his team will need to find a way to play without Nored - as it did last season when big man Matt Howard was on the bench due to foul trouble.
``We did it at Siena, but we didn't carry it over against Evansville," he said. ``But give Evansville credit. They played terrific."
