Bill Haney Wants Floyd Mayweather ‘In the Ring With Devin’
Sipa USA

It might have been a few years since the crown prince of boxing, Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs), stepped down from the boxing ring. But there is no denying that no conversation in boxing is complete without Mayweather. As the date for the highly anticipated Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) vs. Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) inches closer, it looks like Haney’s father, Bill Haney, wants a new opponent for his son.

The older Haney was recently interviewed by Boss Talk 101. In a previous interview with FightHype, Haney had taken a dig at Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) after his statements about the ticket prices for Davis vs Prograis. Moreover, he had also turned his attention towards Davis’ former promoter and mentor, Mayweather.

“The Mayweather era, that’s over with man. It’s the Devin Haney era. Floyd ain’t never done what Devin did at 25. ‘Tank’ ain’t done it; nobody else ain’t done it. Listen, y’all are just scared to say it,” he said.

The host of Boss Talk 101 pressed Haney about his prior statement and further asked him if he still stood by what he said. The older Haney nodded in agreement and mentioned that he would undoubtedly stand firm in his claims about Mayweather. “It’s the Devin Haney era; it was then, and it is now. I’m just as excited,” he said. “If I’m lying, punch me in the mouth or put him in the ring with Devin and prove me wrong. Whoever that may be, whoever your favorite fighter is, we take on the world.”

Haney then highlighted Devin’s undisputed status and stated that he has done things that Mayweather has not done. He also added that he is going to defend the same to “put that stamp on.”

“Tank do not want to fight”

After his fight with Garcia, Haney had previously spoken about pitting his son against Teofimo Lopez (20-1, 13 KOs). In a recent interview with FightHype, the reporter shed light on this statement and asked why he would rather have Lopez over ‘Tank’ Davis.

Haney responded by accusing Davis of refusing to fight. “Man, Tank do not want to fight. Tank do not represent really fighting and really getting to it man. He’s an attraction and he’s not the best fighter in the world. He’s not even close. His resume does not even resemble being the best fighter in the world,” he said.

He added that Haney is the best fighter in the world, even though he might not be the “biggest attraction.”
