As we all know, CM Punk had another backstage issue almost one year after Brawl Out at All In London. Jack Perry made a comment about real glass while staring down the camera and Punk took exception to what he said. This would cause the two to come to blows when Perry came back through the curtain after his match. As reported, the confrontation quickly escalated from words to physicality.

After All In, reports came out about both Punk and Perry being suspended while an investigation into the whole situation took place. The investigation seems to be over, or at least the Punk portion of it as Tony Khan released a statement today that Phil Brooks has been terminated from AEW effective immediately. You can read the full statement below.

Some may find this comes as a big surprise because like him or hate him, CM Punk is a big name in the industry and a draw for wrestling fans to tune in each week. Others may not find this surprising at all due to the fact that this is his second physical altercation backstage in less than a year. That kind of behavior wouldn’t have made it through the first issue in the real world, so Punk got an extra year of pay than most people would after a knock down drag out with a coworker. In the world of professional wrestling, you would usually want to be in the news all the time and think that any press is good press, but in the case of CM Punk, that does not seem to be the case.

This will also make Collision interesting tonight as it is widely looked at as “CM Punk’s Show” and he has been the focal point of almost every episode since its inception. Be sure to tune in to see how they handle the release and keep it locked to Last Word on Sports as we bring you more breaking news involving this situation as it happens.
