Ohara Davies Reveals the Reason Behind His Loss to Ismael Barroso

‘Two Tanks’ Ohara Davies (25-3, 18 KOs) recent quest for the WBA interim light-welterweight title against Ismael Barroso (25-4-2, 23 KOs) saw him suffer a devastating first-round TKO. While his loss stunned the boxing community, Davies recently revealed the reason behind his loss to the Venezuelan.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Davies revealed that he lost to Barroso due to lack of sleep. Moreover, he even blamed the casinos in Las Vegas for keeping him awake.

“So, they had a casino on the ground floor in this hotel. And people don’t know that what they do in the casinos is, they make the temperature perfect. They put more oxygen in the air. This isn’t a conspiracy, this is actually facts,” Davies said.

He mentioned that he spoke to multiple people in the casino business. They told him that the casinos have higher oxygen levels so that people don’t feel tired and, in turn, spend more time gambling.

“And, in our bedrooms, they had big f**king air vents in our bedrooms. Then I realized that maybe I had gone to bed at like 11:30 – 12 O’clock at night. I was up at 3 O’clock in the morning, 2:30 in the morning. I was laying down, I can’t sleep,” he said.

Davies added that not just him found it hard to fall asleep; even the people with him were awake in the early morning. He also stated that he should have realized this earlier and checked out of the hotel. Davies was floored twice in his opening round against Barroso. Even though he had surprised Barroso with an early attack, he was quickly downed by a quick left hand and a punishing volley of punches.

Jamel Herring is having none of it

While Davies stuck true to his belief, it sure looks like former WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring (24-4, 12 KOs) disagrees with his reasoning.

Davies’ video was shared on X, and Herring wasted no time calling him out. He mentioned that the oxygen would not have affected Davies unless “his bed was in the casino itself.” Moreover, he added that his reasons were not valid. Herring further asked Davies to stay off social media and come back stronger.
