LAS VEGAS — The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas will host the rescheduled fight between Ohara Davies and Ismael Barroso on Saturday, January 6. The WBA super lightweight title is up for grabs as the two compete. The match is the co-feature on the card, with Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Fredrick Lawson at the top.

The fight between Barroso, 40, from Venezuelan and Davies, 31, from England was originally scheduled for December 2 in Houston, Texas. The fight was rescheduled because of the latter's visa problems. Davies (25-2, 18 KOs) makes his American debut riding a seven-fight winning streak. In March, he defeated Lewis Ritson via knockout in the ninth round.

“Absolutely over the moon to get this fight confirmed, it’s gonna be a tough fight because Barroso should be the real WBA World Champion already as he was smoking Rolly Romero, but excited to get the fight we were meant to get three years ago in Dubai,” said Davies in media reports before their fight that was to take place on December 2.

Barroso (24-4-2, 22 KOs), a former two-time world championship challenger, is hoping to bounce back from his May loss to Rolando Romero in their WBA super lightweight title match. Barroso, who is based in Miami, had previously won four straight fights. He, lost his challenge for the WBA lightweight title against Anthony Crolla in May 2016.

“I'm very excited to have another opportunity to show that I'm at the world championship level. I proved it in my last fight, and this time I'm going to make sure there's no doubt whatsoever. My team has stuck by me through everything and it has motivated me to get back into the ring and make all our hard work pay off. When fight night comes, I'll be ready to have my hand raised and leave the ring with the title,” ,” said Barroso in media reports.

“Ismael Barroso proved in his last fight that he belongs with all of the top 140 pounders in the world. He put on a great performance on short notice last time out and I’m sure that he’ll be highly motivated to finish the fight this time,” said President of TGB Promotions, Tom Brown.
