Bad Beat: Late 3-pointer from Purdue punishes Grambling State bettors

If you took Grambling State to cover the spread against Purdue, don't read this.

Purdue closed as a 26.5- and 27.5-point favorite before the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Grambling State.

Whether someone got 26.5 or 27.5, it didn't matter. Sure, Purdue was leading for most of the game and dominated the second half. But Grambling bettors had to feel comfortable. Purdue was only up by nine points at halftime.

The Boilermakers put their second-stringers in the game with around five minutes to go. That's usually a good sign if you are sweating the other side. Although, sometimes it can backfire.

Purdue had the ball with a little over 40 seconds to go. It could've dribbled out the clock. But, of course, it did not.

Carson Barrett — a senior guard who had scored three points all season — drilled a 3-pointer with 33 seconds left on the clock to put the Boilermakers up by 28. Gainbridge Fieldhouse (in Indianapolis) went crazy.
