Details of West Virginia HC Bob Huggins' punishment revealed

Details of the pending punishment for West Virginia men's head basketball coach Bob Huggins are starting to be revealed.

Huggins used an anti-gay slur twice during a radio interview on 700WLW's "Bill Cunningham Show" on Monday.

According to Thamel's report, the 69-year-old coach has agreed to a "significant" suspension and his $1 million salary reduction is "believed to be one of the biggest in college athletics." Per Thamel, his amended salary will go from $4.2 million to $3.2 million.

Huggins reportedly met with University of West Virginia president Gordon Gee on Tuesday and expressed contrition for the remarks.

During his appearance on the Cincinnati radio show earlier this week, the 2022 Basketball Hall of Fame inductee (who also coached the Bearcats for 16 seasons), was asked if his current program has recruited any Xavier players in the offseason.

His response can be heard below.

According to Mike Casazza of EerSports.com, Huggins could miss the first three games of the 2023-24 season, but the suspension is "expected to end in time for him to return to his stool at the head of the bench for WVU's trip to Florida for the Fort Myers Tip-Off as leadership raised concerns over penalizing the team for the coach's actions."

With the recent retirement of Syracuse legend Jim Boeheim, Huggins is now first among active coaches in wins with 863.
