Duke legend Mike Krzyzewski's shocking confession: 'I don't miss coaching'

Mike Krzyzewski was a college basketball coach for 48 seasons, with 43 of those seasons coming with the Duke Blue Devils.

He's a legend of the college basketball game and not just one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time, but he's considered one of the greatest coaches and leaders of all time regardless of sports.

Coaching is clearly in his blood, and he was good at it — to say the least. He's a five-time NCAA champion and he led 13 Final Four squads, including his last Duke team in 2021-22 that ended up losing to North Carolina in a classic Final Four matchup.

Not even retired for one year yet, one would think that Krzyzewski would miss all that coaching, or at least all the success he's had over the years, but that's actually not so.

"It's been good. I don't miss coaching. I coached for almost five decades," Krzyzewski recently said, per ESPN. "I knew I did not want to coach anymore, but I didn't want to retire. I do a lot of speaking. I'm on the road at least once, sometimes twice a week, to different locations, and I've learned a lot doing that."

He doesn't miss coaching? That's shocking.

Along with speaking engagements, the future Hall of Fame coach has a weekly radio show on SiriusXM. He's also watched every Duke game this season, though he hasn't been in attendance. He revealed to ESPN that he has been available to his successor, Jon Scheyer, when he's needed.

"I'm here when he needs me. But I also want him to give him the space he needs to develop his own brand within our brand," Krzyzewski explained.

Krzyzewski retired with a 1,202-368 overall record as a college head coach.
