Ex-Nittany Lion guard joins former Penn State basketball coach out of transfer portal

The Owls are heading into year two under former Penn State basketball assistant coach Adam Fisher. A former student manager who also spent time on Pat Chambers’ staff in Happy Valley, Fisher helped Shrewsberry bring Brown to Penn State in the highest-ranked recruiting class in Nittany Lions history.

In his first season at Temple, Adam Fisher led the Owls to a 16-20 record and a berth in the AAC Championship game. Jameel Brown will also join his former Nittany Lion teammate, Cam Wynter, at Temple. Fisher hired Wynter as a special assistant to the head coach last year.

Nittany Lions welcome former top-50 recruit to Happy Valley

Back in Happy Valley, Mike Rhoades has been quickly replacing the talent lost to the transfer portal this spring. On Wednesday, Penn State basketball added ex-Tennessee and former top-50 recruit Freddie Dilione from the portal.

Rhoades previously recruited Dilione while at VCU, and convinced the guard to come to Happy Valley instead of returning to his hometown NC State Wolfpack in Raleigh.

“Our relationship with Freddie and his family goes back several years, and we’re beyond excited to have him join us at Penn State,” Rhoades said in a statement. “Freddie is a very talented and versatile guard who will thrive in our up-tempo style of play. He will be a great addition to our Penn State basketball family both on and off the court.”

Dilione is the fourth transfer portal signee for Penn State basketball this spring. The Nittany Lions lost four players to the portal at the end of the 2023-24 season. Dismissed guard Kanye Clary also transferred to Mississippi State.
