It’s no secret that Michigan basketball needs a point guard. Dug McDaniel entered the transfer portal after Juwan Howard was fired and there has been no indication he’s coming back.

Christian Anderson, a former Michigan basketball signee, also said that he’s re-opening his recruitment. He was going to be a freshman, but would at least be another contributor at point guard.

Durral Brooks can play point guard too. But even if Anderson was in the fold with Brooks, Dusty May needs a veteran guard and the Wolverines have reached out to Georgetown transfer sports Rowan Brumbaugh.

Brumbaugh ranked 93rd overall in the 2022 recruiting class and after redshirting his first season, played 31 games last season for the Hoyas with 20 starts. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 8.3 points last season in addition to 2.6 assists and 2.2 rebounds. He also shot 37 percent from 3-point range and averaged 0.9 steals in 22 minutes.

How Rowan Brumbaugh would fit with Michigan basketball

Dusty May prefers a lineup with multiple shooters, creators, and ball-handlers. The Georgetown transfer would certainly fit the mold. He also has three seasons of eligibility — meaning he could be a multi-year player for the Wolverines, not a one-and-done.

That has value since there are only five scholarship players on the Michigan basketball team right now. May has eight open scholarships and I think that number could grow. Jace Howard, Nimari Burnett, Will Tschetter, and Terrance Williams all have decisions to make.

I’d be fine with all of them staying except Jace. After the issues with Coach Sanderson and the fact that his dad was the man Dusty May replaced, it seems like it would be good for both sides to move on. George Washington III could be a fit for Michigan basketball too.

Danny Wolf is a big man of interest and there’s reason to believe the Wolverines are the favorite. None of the FAU players have entered the portal though. There hasn’t been much said about some of the other transfer targets yet either, but things should start picking up soon.
