Ohio State-Kentucky men's basketball game canceled due to COVID-19

It was learned earlier in the day that the Penn State Nittany Lions wouldn't be able to face the VCU Rams on Saturday, as scheduled, because of COVID-19 issues impacting PSU.

A different Big Ten school has suffered a similar fate ahead of Christmas.

The No. 15-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes confirmed Thursday afternoon they won't play against the No. 21-ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday in the CBS Sports Classic held in Las Vegas because of coronavirus setbacks affecting the Buckeyes. That matchup won't be rescheduled.

"The safety and well-being of the student-athletes, coaches, staff and Ohio State community is the highest priority," the program added in its brief statement. "All team related activities have been suspended and the players and staff will continue to be tested according to Ohio State protocols in consultation with the Big Ten Conference.

"The status of future games is to be determined."

It's unknown if Ohio State will be cleared to host the UT Martin Skyhawks on Tuesday.

The No. 4-ranked UCLA Bruins are scheduled to play against the North Carolina Tar Heels in the CBS Sports Classic, but that was before UCLA's game versus the Alabama State Hornets on Wednesday night was called off.

UCLA's intentions for the weekend are up in the air as of Thursday afternoon:
