The Georgia Bulldogs got a huge commitment yesterday from former UNLV quarterback Jayden Maiava. Even though Carson Beck was returning for another season, Maiava would be waiting in the wings to take over for one of the best programs in the country. However, he changed his mind at the last minute and announced that he would be going to USC instead.

The quarterback room is looking a little thin in Athens. Maiava suddenly announced that he would instead attend USC instead in a move that shocked many. It goes to show that even after a verbal commitment, nothing is official. Players can still change their minds and go somewhere else. We are starting to see this among a lot of players. They announce a decision and then very quickly change their mind. There is a lot of consideration with these types of decisions and some programs make a last-ditch effort that ends up working.
I thought the Georgia decision was a great one for Maiava. The quarterback room is thin meaning the competition is not as steep. It seemed that Maiava would be on the fast track to starting next season. At USC, things are a little more competitive and it isn’t clear whether Maiava will see the field next year. Obviously, we don’t know what was said behind closed doors but the Trojans must have made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
It is back to the drawing board for the Georgia Bulldogs. While they have a quarterback for next year, they will need to figure out something for the future.
