Nowadays in college football, the assumption for a player if he isn't getting an amicable amount of in-game repetitions, he will enter the transfer portal.

Devin Brown said earlier this spring, if he doesn't win the quarterback battle with Kyle McCord, he's still a Buckeye.

And this past offseason Ohio State Buckeyes running back Dallan Hayden committed to the same.

"That was honestly a rumor," Hayden said of the possibility of his transfer. "I'm not sure how that got out because it definitely didn't come from anybody close to me or from me, so that was just crazy."

Running backs coach Tony Alford said in February there we no conversations between him and Hayden about the Memphis, TN. native's transfer.

"You hear all the stuff out there in the social media world," Alford said. "At the core of it, I think we have enough relationship with our players that we have open conversations with them and the parents and say, 'Here's where we're at, what we're thinking.' So no, he's been fine."

Last season, Hayden started as a fourth-string in the running backs room, but Evan Pryor tore his ACL in August and TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams both battled lingering injuries throughout the year that increased his role.

He had the second-most carries on the Buckeyes in 2022 with 111, trailing only Williams. Hayden had 553 yards and found the end zone five times, highlighted by a performance against the Maryland Terrapins in November, in which he ran for 146 yards and three scores.

"I'm really fast, got a little power to me," Hayden said of his skillset on April 5. "I always run full speed and I can hit the crease."

In spring, Hayden said he's just focused on every repetition that's in front of him.

"I just live out a motto like you've got to make every rep count," Hayden said. "All the coaches have emphasized this spring saying every rep matters, so that's been my mentality this whole spring."
