Memphis Football: Tigers Rolls Over Temple To Finish Regular Season
© Stu Boyd II-USA TODAY Sports

The Memphis Tigers will head into the postseason with a 9-3 overall record. It's their highest win total yet under head coach Ryan Silverfield.

The Tigers led off the Black Friday college football schedule with a 45-21 win at Temple.

"It speaks volumes about the young men in this program," Silverfield said of winning nine games. "I'm proud of their efforts today...whenever we play that bowl game, we'll be ready."

Memphis quarterback Seth Henigan threw for four touchdowns in the win, a season high. Henigan led a balanced Memphis offensive attack that despite the large margin of victory, had a close battle with the Temple offense in terms of total yardage and time of possession. In the end, it was Henigan and the Tigers' offensive efficiency that won the game. Seven of Memphis' 12 offensive possessions ended in points.

Blake Watson Goes Over 1,000 Yards Rushing

Old Dominion transfer running back Blake Watson carried 15 times for 95 yards in the win. He also caught four balls for 39 yards and a touchdown.

The day brings Watson's rushing total this season to 1,045 yards. Watson is the eighth back in Memphis history, and the Tigers' first since 2019, to go over 1,000 yards in a season.

The Queens native finishes the regular season as one of the more versatile backs in FBS, with 463 receiving yards on the season as well.

3-9 Again For The Owls

Temple finish the season 3-9 for the third year in a row. Two of those seasons have been under Stan Drayton. It's undeniable that the culture of Temple football has taken a step forward under Drayton. However, the wins simply aren't coming.
