Michigan Wolverines Lose Talented Running Back To The Transfer Portal
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Michigan Wolverines haven’t had many players leave for the transfer portal. Some of this may be due to the fact that they are preparing for their semifinal game against Alabama and even those that may be thinking of transferring might stick around for now to get the experience. It also speaks to the culture that Jim Harbaugh has built. Despite all this, they had their first player announce intentions to go into the portal. Talented running back CJ Stokes announced via social media he is entering the transfer portal.

Michigan Wolverines RB CJ Stokes Enters Transfer Portal

Stokes is a second-year running back out of South Carolina and fans probably remember him from last year. With Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards both out with injuries, Stokes came in and ran for 273 yards and a touchdown against Illinois. He never really saw the field again. With Corum and Edwards returning for 2023, Stokes played in the first two games but never saw the field again. Some of this was due to injuries but he also slipped down the depth chart.

Not A Concern For The Wolverines

It always stinks to lose a player but the Wolverines have a plethora of talent at the running back position. Ben Hall and Cole Cabana are already on the roster and Jordan Marshall and Micah Ka’apana join the squad in 2024. If Michigan was really desperate, they could likely land a running back out of the transfer portal. There is also a chance that Edwards is back next year though many people think he will declare for the draft.

Can the Michigan Wolverines win it all in 2023? They will need to get past a tough Alabama team and then shut down a great offense in the championship game.
