Ohio State working on flipping major Nebraska commit

Carlon Jones is a big-time commitment for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He's ranked as the No. 49 defensive tackle in his class, according to the 247Sports composite, checking in at 6-foot-2, 270 pounds.

He's been committed to head coach Matt Rhule and Nebraska since June 29, 2023, but that's a commitment that could be in jeopardy. At the very least, there's a competitor on the horizon that's trying to put it in jeopardy.

On3 is reporting that Ohio State is hot on the trail for Jones. The big defensive lineman just received an offer from the Buckeyes, and they're putting on the full-court press.

The source? The recruit himself.

“I’m excited just knowing they are interested,” Jones said of his Ohio State offer. “We’ve been talking for about three weeks.”

That's got to be disheartening for Nebraska fans to hear. Even more so considering the fact that Jones has already scheduled an official visit to Columbus. He'll be in town when the Buckeyes take on Michigan State in two weekends.

“They are a contender for the national title every year,” Jones said of OSU. “They get a lot of players to the next level and they play hard-nosed football.”

Rhule's 2024 class is currently ranked No. 25 in the nation. It will be interesting to see how Nebraska responds on the recruiting trail to this pressure from OSU. It will be even more interesting to see how things shake out after the official visit to Ohio State.
