Ole Miss Lands Commitment From Ex-Volunteers Edge Tyler Baron

OXFORD — The Ole Miss Rebels ’ momentum in the transfer portal continued on Saturday afternoon as they landed a commitment from former Tennessee Volunteers edge rusher Tyler Baron.

Baron is the second former Vol to pledge to Ole Miss on Saturday as it also gained a nod from defensive back Tamarion McDonald earlier in the day. Baron made his commitment announcement on social media, and it can be viewed here.

Over the course of his four-year college career, he has registered 102 tackles and 13.5 sacks. Baron is a native of Knoxville, and he played his prep ball at Knoxville Catholic, so he was searching for a home away from home in the 2024 season, a path that eventually led him to Oxford.

According to On3's recruiting database, Baron was the No. 8 edge in the nation and the No. 4 player out of the state of Tennessee in the 2020 class.

He marks the eighth transfer portal commitment of this early cycle for Ole Miss, and he will provide another major piece to Pete Golding’s defense in Oxford. The Rebels have assembled quite the transfer group on that side of the ball this month, gaining a pledge from fellow edge rusher and former Florida Gator Princely Umanmielen on Friday afternoon.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin (along with his defensive coordinator Pete Golding) is a busy man these days, working to navigate prep recruiting, the transfer portal and bowl prep as the Rebels prepare to face the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Dec. 30.

Kickoff on that day is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT I’m Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, and the game will be televised on ESPN.
