The transfer portal officially opened on Tuesday, April 16th. The Penn State football team is preparing for roster changes just like every school in the country this time of year. After the Blue-White Game, where Nittany Lion players had the chance to showcase their skills in front of their respective position coaches, Penn State WR Malick Meiga has entered the portal, according to reports.

Penn State football loses veteran WR to the transfer portal

On Tuesday, it was announced by Rivals that Penn State football wide receiver Malick Meiga has decided to enter the transfer portal. Meiga enters his senior year in 2024. Last season he was announced as one of the team captains for the Nittany Lions. While listed as a wide receiver his role primarily is on special teams. In 2023, he accounted for 3 receptions for 9 yards and appeared in ten games.

Meiga feels like the flower that never fully blossomed in Happy Valley. During the 2021 season, he made a splash play against Rutgers when he hauled in a 67-yard touchdown reception from ex-Penn State QB Christian Veilleux. The Nittany Lion faithful expected that to be the beginning of a larger role at Penn State; however, he never scored another touchdown or secured a large role on offense. Meiga finished his Nittany Lion career with 9 catches for 106 yards and 1 touchdown.

On Monday evening, Pete Nakos of On3 reported that Penn State football wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith had officially entered the transfer portal. The news broke after a report broke last week that rumored that Lambert-Smith was considering the transfer portal.

The Norfolk native will finish his career in Happy Valley with 1,721 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He led the Nittany Lions in receiving yards last season with 673. Now, with Lambert-Smith and Meiga in the transfer portal, Penn State will need more from the current wide receivers on the roster.
