It was a relatively quiet week for the Sooners in the NFL. There were still touchdowns scored and stellar performances to be had, but the quarterback play slowed down and the statlines didn’t quite jump off the page.
Both Baker Mayfield and Jalen Hurts sputtered after an unbelievably hot start to the season.
Hurts had the Eagles playing championship level football, undefeated on the season and firing on all cylinders offensively. That all came to a screeching halt against the New York Jets defense on Sunday afternoon. He completed 28-of-45 passes for 220 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. Two interceptions were timely mistakes that came in the fourth quarter, and one essentially lost the game for the Eagles. Hurts added eight rushes for 47 yards and a score on the ground, too.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 5-1 on the season and it was easily Hurts’ worst game this year to date.
Mayfield didn’t turn the ball over as much as Hurts, but struggled to move the ball even more. He finished the game 19-of-37 for 206 yards and one interception, as the Buccaneers failed to reach the endzone entirely. Tampa Bay struggled to find any offensive momentum against a solid Detroit Lions team and ended up falling 20-6 at home.
Ceedee Lamb is scheduled to start on Monday night, but it was a quiet day for Oklahoma’s offense in the NFL. Rhamondre Stevenson added 10 carries for 46 yards and a touchdown, while the Patriots fell short once again. Mark Andrews totaled four catches for 69 yards as Baltimore’s leading receiver and leading the Ravens to a much needed win.
Tre Brown continued his impressive start to the season, picking off Joe Burrow on a deep ball, defending Ja'Marr Chase.
