Stanford Tree mascot posts hilarious eulogy for Pop-Tarts friend

The Stanford Tree mascot took to social media Friday morning to remember its "dear friend and mentor," the Pop-Tarts Bowl mascot, which was devoured by the Kansas State football team on Thursday night.

Pictures and videos of the before, during and after consumption of the edible toaster pastry breakfast treat flooded X, formerly known as Twitter, throughout late Thursday night.

It was announced in late November that the winning team of the first Pop-Tarts Bowl would get the chance to eat the first "Edible Mascot" following the contest. The bowl game, which took place in Orlando's Camping World Stadium, had previously been called the Blockbuster Bowl, Carquest Bowl, Micron Bowl, Tangerine Bowl, Mazda Bowl, Champs Sports Bowl, Russell Athletic Bowl, Camping World Bowl and most recently, Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. None had a postgame celebration as salivating as Thursday did, however.

As for the action on the field, the Wildcats jumped out to a 21-7 lead on the 19th-ranked North Carolina State Wolfpack before holding on for a 28-19 victory.

Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson went 14-for-31 for 178 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, while adding seven carries for 71 rushing yards and one score to earn game MVP honors. Running back DJ Giddens was also big in the win, registering a game-high 28 rushing attempts for 151 yards and one touchdown, while adding a 37-yard touchdown reception as well.

In the defeat, Wolfpack signal-caller Brennan Armstrong had 17 rushing attempts for 121 yards and one touchdown but went just 14-for-28 for 164 passing yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
