Tulane Win Friday Road Battle At Memphis 31-21
USA TODAY Sports

In the first game of Friday's college football double header on ESPN, the Memphis Tigers and Tulane Green Wave kicked off a highly anticipated matchup in the historic Liberty Bowl.

The battle had a handful of momentum shifts that added to the excitement, but it was ultimately the Green Wave who picked up the ten-point victory. Tulane were favored by five points at the beginning of the day.

An Up-And-Down Day For Seth Henigan

After throwing an interception on Memphis' second possession, Tigers quarterback Seth Henigan rebounded in a noticeable way. Henigan finished Friday's game with 24 completions on 43 attempts for 321 yards and three touchdowns.

He also ended up with two interceptions in the game, marking his third game this season with multiple picks.

About Those Interceptions...

Tulane were efficient in turning turnovers forced by the defense into points on offense. After Henigan's first thrown interception, Tulane then scored a touchdown at the end of a nine-play, 72-yard drive. After the second, the Green Wave scored another touchdown at the end of a four-play, 52-yard drive.

In a game decided by two scores, those two scores seem particularly significant.

Chris Brazzell II

Tulane wide receiver Chris Brazzell turned in a career-high for receiving yardage with 103 yards on three catches. Brazell had a touchdown catch called back as well for offensive pass interference.

The Streak is Broken

Prior to Saturday, the home team had won each matchup after Memphis won in New Orleans in 2016. Tulane picked up a road win in the Liberty Bowl for the first time since 1998.

At 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, the Green Wave are now tied with SMU for the top spot in the AAC. Tulane will host North Texas next week as they look to secure postseason eligibility once again. Memphis fall to 4-2 and will travel to UAB that same day.
