Urban Meyer shares who he thinks is 'the best team in the country'

It was a huge win for Steve Sarkisian's Texas Longhorns.

They went into Tuscaloosa to take on the giant known as Nick Saban and his Alabama Crimson Tide. Not only did they come away with a win, but the Longhorns looked great in the process.

The end result was a 34-24 win that wasn't as close as the final score indicated. Texas dominated an Alabama program that is not used to being on the losing end of a beatdown.

The win was enough to improve Texas' AP Top 25 ranking from No. 11 to No. 4.

It also drew the compliments of current analyst and three-time national championship coach Urban Meyer.

“They’re the best team in the country,” Meyer recently told On3. "I mean, Alabama tried to keep it close but it really wasn’t close.

“Top to bottom, I think Texas is the best team in the country," Meyer continued. "I thought that going into the season if they stayed healthy and if they just kind of figured out things, you know, Texas, you can’t go back and say Texas hasn’t had players. That’s nonsense. There was something wrong and whatever was wrong seems to be figured out.”

Meyer is right. The Longhorns have never had a hard time drawing top players on the recruiting trail, The results have been super ever since the end of the Mack Brown era, though. Charlie Strong was a disappointment. Tom Herman may have been even worse.

Sarkisian has seemingly figured something out with this squad, though. Recruiting some of the best players in the country has certainly played into it, but there's a different vibe surrounding this Longhorns squad. Any old team doesn't just walk into Tuscaloosa and beat the breaks off of Alabama.

Championship vibes are something Meyer, of all people, understands, so it's worth keeping his thoughts on the Longhorns in mind.

“No one asked me my vote, but my vote would be Texas number one," he said.
