The hiring of Bill O’Brien by the Ohio State Buckeyes appears to have cost another coach his job.

Corey Dennis, who is the son-in-law of Urban Meyer, is being supplanted by O’Brien, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Reports on Thursday night said that Ohio State had hired O’Brien to serve as their offensive coordinator. O’Brien reportedly will call plays for the offense.

While Brian Hartline will be retained as co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, reports have said that Dennis is out as the Buckeyes’ quarterbacks coach.

Dennis played WR/DB and special teams at Georgia Tech from 2011-2014, where he met Meyer’s oldest daughter Nicki, who played volleyball at the school. Dennis and Nicki are married and have three children. Dennis was hired to join Ohio State as an intern for Meyer’s team in 2015. He was retained by Day and worked his way up to quarterbacks coach — a position he has held since 2020.

Dennis helped former Ohio State quarterbacks Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields, and he was the program’s quarterbacks coach for C.J. Stroud’s career.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Dennis now. The 31-year-old has been regarded as a good recruiter, and he has helped develop plenty of accomplished quarterbacks during his coaching career.
