20 actors who need to join the 'SNL' Five-Timers Club

Hosting Saturday Night Live once is an honor for most, but some have been lucky enough to join the Five-Timers Club. Here are 20 more actors who also deserve to don a Five-Timers jacket.

1 of 20

Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm
USA Today

Jon Hamm’s most acclaimed work has been in the drama space, but the actor has serious comedy chops. Hamm has hosted SNL multiple times and made cameos in other episodes, and all of his appearances have been memorable. Give this man a jacket, stat.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus
NBC

Miley Cyrus has been a friend of Saturday Night Live since her Disney days. She’s hosted and acted as musical guest, and while she hasn’t focused on acting much recently, if she were to make a serious return in front of the camera, hosting SNL again — or a few more times to join the Five-Timers Club — would be a welcome option.

Andy Samberg

Andy Samberg
NBC

Andy Samberg has only hosted the show once since leaving but desperately needs to make a comeback … or four. Imagine the greatness that would be Samberg collaborating with the Please Don’t Destroy gang for a digital short.

Charles Barkley

Charles Barkley
USA Today

Plenty of athletes have hosted SNL, but Charles Barkley might be the best of the lot to ever do it. He’s just one episode away from joining the Five-Timers Club, and if he were to make it, he’d join Dwayne Johnson as the only athletes on the list.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway
USA Today

Anne Hathaway has hosted SNL three times, and each episode has been great. There’s a reason she’s been asked back multiple times. The actor hasn’t hosted since 2018, but given she’s steadily finding work in Hollywood, she’ll have plenty of promotional reasons to host again in the future.

6 of 20

Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling
Ryan Gosling NBC

Ryan Gosling is an excellent SNL host. He has great comic timing, and one of his past sketches actually made Greta Gerwig want to cast him in Barbie. Why Gosling isn’t in the Five-Timers Club yet is beyond us, but we’d love to see him join.

Martin Short

Martin Short
Martin Short NBC

There are (obviously) multiple people we think should join the Five-Timers Club, but not many likely will. Martin Short, however, is an exception. He’s just one episode away, and he’s a friend of the show. If he were to join, two of the three Only Murders in the Building stars would be members of the elite group.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan USA Today

Lindsay Lohan has hosted Saturday Night Live four times now, but she hasn’t done it since 2012. Lohan has made a serious return to acting in the past couple of years, so if there were ever a time for her to join the Club, it’d be now.

Jack Black

Jack Black
Jack Black Paramount Pictures

Between hosting and playing music on the show, Jack Black has been in five episodes, but he’s only hosted three of them. He’s a comedy legend, and comedy legends deserve to be part of the Five-Timers Club.

10 of 20

Lily Tomlin

Lily Tomlin
Lily Tomlin Broadway Video

Lily Tomlin is in a (not-so) serious competition with her friend Jane Fonda over who has more awards and recognitions, and if Tomlin were to become a member of the Five-Timers Club (she’s awfully close), it would be one honor Fonda can’t even touch. Aside from that, Tomlin is a national treasure who needs to join the Club.

11 of 20

Amy Poehler

Amy Poehler
Amy Poehler NBC

Most former SNL cast members don’t deserve to return as hosts, but most former SNL cast members aren’t Amy Poehler. She’s a gift to the comedy world, and SNL in the 2000s wouldn’t have been the same without her influence. If anyone deserves the jacket, it’s her.

12 of 20

Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz USA Today

It’s a stretch to think Cameron Diaz will ever join the Five-Timers Club. She’s essentially quit acting. But we can hope. Diaz has been in some iconic skits, most recently “Back Home Ballers,” and we know she’d kill it again if given the opportunity.

13 of 20

Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx
Jamie Foxx USA Today

Jamie Foxx has only hosted SNL twice, but he’s just as funny as anyone else on this list. Foxx seems to spend his time on more serious projects these days, but if he wanted to join the cast for a few more episodes of SNL to earn himself a jacket, we’d imagine he’d be welcome back.

14 of 20

Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy
Eddie Murphy Broadway Video

When we say it’s a long shot that Eddie Murphy will ever join the Five-Timers Club, we mean it. It took him decades to return to the show as host, and we doubt he ever will again, but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t. The man is an SNL icon, and every sketch he’s in is better for it.

15 of 20

Harry Styles

Harry Styles
Harry Styles USA Today

Harry Styles has been the musical guest on SNL quite a few times, but he’s only hosted once. Still, his hosting gig was one of his times as musical guest, too, and he proved that he’s got the ability to do it. We’d love to see him get one (or four) more chances.

16 of 20

Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart
Kevin Hart Broadway Video

Kevin Hart has three SNL hosting turns under his belt. Two more and he’d join the Five-Timers Club. Hart’s specific brand of comedy works well on SNL, and the club could use some more actors who rose to fame through their stand-up work.

17 of 20

Catherine O’Hara

Catherine O’Hara
CBC Television/Netflix

Catherine O’Hara hasn’t hosted SNL since the early ‘90s, but she needs to make a few returns and become a Five-Timer. Imagine how epic a Moira Rose SNL skit would be. We’ve definitely imagined it a time or two.

18 of 20

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds
Ryan Reynolds USA Today

Ryan Reynolds has appeared on SNL multiple times, but he’s only hosted once, and we find that to be a crime worthy of punishment. Reynolds is naturally hilarious, and there’s no good reason why he hasn’t hosted again. Someone, anyone, please start a petition to get him four more hosting gigs.

19 of 20

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish USA Today

No one expected Billie Eilish to host SNL, but when she took on the Christmas episode in 2021, she did it flawlessly. Eilish has plenty of time to host again and become a Five-Timer, but we hope that comes sooner than later.

20 of 20

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez NBC

Not everyone is a fan of Jennifer Lopez as a comedian, but the SNL writers know exactly what to do with her to make her episodes good. Lopez has hosted three times now, and we don’t expect she’ll slow down in her career any time soon. Give it a few years, and we can see her joining the Five-Timers Club.
