Henry Cavill was on the red carpet last night for the premiere of his new film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

From director Guy Ritchie, the film takes place during World War II and follows the British military as they recruit a group of highly skilled soldiers to strike against German forces behind enemy lines.

Cavill stars as Gus March-Phillips and is joined in the ensemble cast by a host of players, including Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Babs Olusamokun, Henrique Zaga, Til Schweiger, with Henry Golding, and Cary Elwes.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is based on recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events but switches the true-story genre on its head by turning the film into an action comedy.

Speaking with Discussing Film, Cavill spoke to the balance of tone and Guy Ritchie's approach as a director, saying, "It's a lot of fun, but it's also about some really serious subject matters".

Cavill was excited to discuss Ritchie's process, saying, "Guy is one of those people who, in the morning, we sit down, and we kick a scene around, and the scene - as written - will not exist in the same way by the time we're finished".

"It creates a really freeing process," Cavill said. "I really really enjoy it because there's no limitations. It's just about the best storytelling and the best character development," he says.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is out in theaters now.
