Hilary Duff to star in 'How I Met Your Mother' spinoff

How I Met Your Mother ended its nine-season run in 2014, and fans who especially miss the Josh Radnor-led sitcom will be pleased with Hulu's latest announcement.

According to Deadline, then retweeted by Hulu, the streaming service has given How I Met Your Father a straight-to-series order—finally giving the beloved CBS sitcom a spinoff—with Hilary Duff already attached as a star plus Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker as creators.

Deadline provided more context:

"It is a long road to air for the project. Back in 2014, HIMYM creators Craig Thomas & Carter Bays and Emily Spivey wrote a pilot for CBS that starred Greta Gerwig and Drew Tarver, but it wasn’t picked up.

"Two and a half years later, Aptaker and Berger created a new take, but after the pair were elevated to co-showrunners of NBC’s This Is Us they were no longer available. Studio 20th Television tried again in the 2017-18 development season with You’re the Worst writer Alison Bennett, but again it did not move forward."

Duff, 33, has most recently starred as ambitious publisher Kelsey Peters in Darren Star's Younger, which is now streaming its seventh and final season on Paramount Plus.

Other than Radnor, who played the show's central character Ted Mosby, the original series cast boasted Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, and more. Bob Saget served as an unseen older Ted (Radnor) narrating to his children the long and winding years-long saga that led him to meet their mother.
