'Police Academy' actor Michael Winslow floors 'America's Got Talent' judges

Michael Winslow made his name on an uncanny ability to mimic sound effects, as a "voicestrumentalist," but he proved during his America's Got Talent audition that you can't fake heart.

"I used to be the Man of 10,000 Sound Effects, but we're into the hundreds of thousands now," the 62-year-old, who starred as Larvell Jones throughout the Police Academy franchise, said while introducing himself.

"I ended up doing pretty well, but I stopped making movies because I quit the business for my children," Winslow later explained. "I had to raise them because I became a widower. But now, after raising my two kids, I'm in a different phase. I think this is my time, and America's Got Talent is the place for me to show everyone I still have something to offer."

AGT host Terry Crews called Winslow "a legend," and once the comedic actor took the stage, judges Howie Mandel and Simon Cowell immediately recognized him. Mandel smiled and pointed at him familiarly. "We know you!" Simon Cowell gaped, then later added: "I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that you're here."

Winslow then launched into a standup routine about how he grew up making noises, including a litany of airplane- and radio-based sounds, that had the judges laughing before they gave him a standing ovation.
