Tom Arnold explains how Chris Farley dancing abruptly ended his bachelor party

For a time, nobody knew the late Chris Farley as well as Tom Arnold.

The Roseanne actor explained the extent of his friendship with Farley during an interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show:

Farley was the best man at Arnold's 1995 wedding to Julie Lynn Champnella, known as Julie Armstrong, but before anybody said "I do," Farley threw Arnold his bachelor party.

"We did it at Scores," Arnold explained. "What happened was all the guys—David Spade was in the wedding—there was a lot of guys. Farley disappeared, and then came on stage naked, and then they ended up kicking everybody out. Because he was a big guy. He did not mind being naked."

That anecdote showed why Farley was such a beloved comedian via Saturday Night Live and Tommy Boy, but Arnold also had a first-row look at Farley's darker side.

"I was his sponsor for a few years," the 62-year-old revealed. "Chris was from Wisconsin, I'm from Iowa, so we go to switch off football games. Very close. When he came out to do my television show or my HBO specials, he just knew how funny he was. But then he'd stay with me, and I got to know his whole family, and you know, he liked to have fun. He had too much fun. Very sad when he died."

Farley died from a cocaine and morphine overdose in December 1997. He was only 33 years old.

"It must have driven you crazy that you couldn't stop him from absuing himself," Stern posited.

"He went to 17—he was on his way to his 17th rehab," Arnold replied. "It's also frustrating because, at a certain point, he's like, 'Yeah, I'm not gonna be around Tom because I don't want him to see.' I always told Chris, 'You can't be fat and do drugs. You just can't be that fat. You gotta pick one.' I speak from experience."

Arnold additionally touched on his recent divorce from his fourth wife, Ashley Groussman, and the relevant advice he got from James Cameron and Sharon Stone.
