Which actors have the most Razzie nominations?

Jack Nicholson and Katharine Hepburn both have 12 Oscar acting nominations, and Meryl Streep has a whopping 21, dwarfing her closest competition. However, who are the Streeps and the Nicholsons of the Razzies, the Golden Raspberry Awards, which are dedicated to the worst in film? While they’ve only been around since 1980, losing decades worth of nominations to the Oscars, some actors already have racked up a ton of nominations and wins. Here are the actors in the history of the Razzies who have had the (dis)honor to be nominated the most.

Sylvester Stallone
TriStar

Stallone is the king of the Razzies, for better or worse. He’s been nominated for Worst Actor a whopping 15 times and for Worst Supporting Actor three times for good measure. Nobody comes close to Sly’s total; he was also named Worst Actor of the Decade for the ‘90s. Hey, the fact remains “Rocky” also won him a Best Picture Oscar.

Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler
Sony

The only person primed to make a run at Stallone for the nominations lead is Sandler. The Razzies do not like the slapdash comedy that the Sandman likes to engage in. While he hasn’t picked up a Supporting Actor nod, he’s been up for Worst Actor 12 times and also one Worst Actress for his drag role in “Jack and Jill,” for which he was also nominated for Worst Actor. Talk about pulling double duty.

Kevin Costner

Kevin Costner
Universal

Costner was the creative driving force behind two huge, iconic flops: “Waterworld” and “The Postman.” Those two films only scratch the surface for Costner, though, who has seven nominations for Worst Actor. Well at least “Waterworld” didn’t win Worst Picture.

John Travolta

John Travolta
Warner Bros.

You might be surprised to find that Travolta isn’t the Nicholson of the Razzies, though he’s no slouch. The man made “Battlefield Earth,” after all. That film won Worst Picture of the Decade, but Travolta managed to avoid winning Worst Actor of the Decade. However, he does have eight total acting nominations from the Razzies, and won for his performance in "The Fanatic" and "Trading Paint" in 2019.

Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage
Warner Bros.

Cage is famous for his bonkers performances, but people also tend to like them. Still, it’s hard to call, say “The Wicker Man” “good” acting by any reasonable measure. Cage has an acting Oscar, but he also has five nominations for Worst Actor. That’s what happens when you aren’t afraid to make big choices.

Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy
Warner Bros.

Murphy was arguably the biggest star of the ‘80s. Then, well, his decision-making started to get a little puzzling. Murphy spent years making lousy comedies, earning him five nominations from the Golden Raspberries. On the plus side, “Dolemite is My Name” was a nice return to form, as was his hosting gig on “Saturday Night Live.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold Schwarzenegger
TriStar

Ask Schwarzenegger to be physically imposing, and he can do it with gusto. Ask him to do some real acting and, well, it doesn’t usually work so great. The former governor of California has four Worst Actor nominations, but he also has the most Worst Supporting Actor nominations with five.

Burt Reynolds

Burt Reynolds
Warner Bros.

Who is one behind Schwarzenegger for Worst Supporting Actor nominations? That would be Reynolds. Once one of the biggest movie stars in the world, though in a time before the Razzies by and large, his later work was evidently less enjoyed by Razzie voters.

Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck
Buena Vista

Affleck famously won an Oscar for screenwriting alongside Matt Damon, and he also directed the Oscar-winning “Argo.” His acting work, though, is less well received. He has four Worst Actor nominations plus a bunch of Worst Screen Couple nods to boot.

Johnny Depp

Depp was once a great actor, but then he started to get more interested in wearing wacky costumes and wigs. All five of his Razzie nominations, four for Lead Actor, one for Supporting Actor, have come since 2014. Will there be more in his future? Well, there is apparently a “Sherlock Gnomes” sequel coming.

Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis
TriStar

We arrive to the last man with at least five Worst Actor nominations. In addition to those five nominations, and one win, he also has a Worst Screenplay nomination for “Hudson Hawk” and two for Supporting Actor as well. "Hudson Hawk" also took home Worst Picture. Willis has, unfortunately, had to retire from acting due to his health.

Tyler Perry

Tyler Perry
Lionsgate

Perry has four Razzie nominations himself. Now, didn’t we just say that Willis was the last person with four Worst Actor nods? That’s because Perry has five Worst Actress nominations. Why? Because of his drag performances in the Madea movies.

Madonna

Madonna
MGM

A big-time musician who decides to dabble in acting? Of course the Razzies have an issue with Madonna. She’s the queen of nominations, as she’s one of three actresses with six Worst Actress nominations and also has three Worst Supporting Actresses nods to boot.

14 of 20

Demi Moore

Demi Moore
Columbia

Moore and Willis were the power couple of the Razzies when they were together. It’s Demi who has more nods than her ex-husband though. She’s taken home six nominations for Worst Actress, just like Madonna. Of course, one of them was for “Strıptease.”

Faye Dunaway

Faye Dunaway
Paramount

Dunaway is another person with both an Oscar and a handful of Razzie nominations. She isn’t as out there of a performer as Cage, but her work has still gotten slagged off quite a bit. Dunaway has four Worst Actress nominations, but she’s also added three Worst Supporting Actress nominations.

Melanie Griffith

Melanie Griffith
Warner Bros.

Griffith was one of those actresses who had a reputation, at least early in her career, of being hired mostly for her looks. Eventually, she would get good press for films like, say, “Working Girl,” but she still has a whopping six Worst Actress nominations.

Carmen Electra

Carmen Electra
Dimension Films

In terms of pound-for-pound nominations, Electra might be the queen. She hasn’t been in a ton of movies, but she’s gotten a Razzie nomination for basically all of them. Electra has five Worst Supporting Actress nods, most of anybody.

18 of 20

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez
Sony

Lopez is a talented actress, but she was also in “Gigli,” which basically put her in the crosshairs of the Razzies for years. While her recent work in “Hustlers” had her in the running for an Oscar nomination — it didn’t end up happening — she’s gotten plenty of Razzie’s “love.” J. Lo has five Worst Actress nods plus two Supporting Actress nods for good measure. Or, rather, bad measure.

19 of 20

Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone
Warner Bros.

Surprisingly, Stone got a Worst New Star nomination for “Basic Instinct” and then would eventually win Worst Actress for “Basic Instinct 2.” That was one of her five nominations for Worst Actress, and she has one Worst Supporting Actress nomination for “Catwoman.”

20 of 20

Sean Young

Sean Young
Universal

Speaking of Catwoman, Young famously showed up in costume to the audition for that role in “Batman Returns." She didn’t get it, but she has gotten some roles that the Razzies did not enjoy. Young has balanced her career nicely, though, as she has three nominations apiece for Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress.
