Cowboys, Texans, and Chargers all targeting the same former Texas A&M Aggies star NFL Draft prospect

The Cowboys, Texans, and Chargers are all meeting with the same highly coveted NFL Draft prospect this week. All three teams have made it clear with their pre-draft visits and signings thus far in free agency that they're interested in adding at least one more linebacker to their roster so it's not a surprise Edgerrin Cooper is on their radar.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the former Texas A&M Aggies star linebacker Edgerrin Cooper just met with the Texans and Cowboys, and will be meeting with the Chargers today.

This brings Cooper's official visit and formal interview total into the double digits this draft season. Cooper leads all linebacker prospects in official meetings with NFL franchises, and continues to look like he is the number one linebacker prospect in the class.

Why is Cooper so highly sought after? He was an absolute monster do-it-all weapon for Texas A&M. Cooper racked up ten sacks last year, allowed just 14 receptions in coverage all year long (never a touchdown), and was a force in the run game stopping plays for negative EPA (expected points added) on over 80% of his tackles. Then he posted a near 90th percentile Speed Score at the NFL Combine. Cooper is special.

The Cowboys are certainly looking to replace the recently retired Leighton Vander Esch. The Chargers really only have one proven off-ball linebacker in Denzel Perryman, and he averages more than four games missed per season. And the Texans use three off-ball linebackers on-field at once at a higher rate than almost any other NFL franchise. All three teams certainly make sense as potential suitors.

All three teams have NFL Draft selections between pick 37 and 56, firmly within his projected draft range (based on 150+ mock drafts in the last several weeks). There's not likely going to be any linebackers taken before the first of these teams come on the clock in round two, so keep an eye on the Cowboys, Chargers, or Texans to draft the former Texas A&M great.
