Mets sign brother of four-time NBA champion
Trayce Thompson Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

After spending several seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Trayce Thompson is moving to the other mega-market.

The New York Mets announced on Thursday that they have signed the outfielder Thompson to a minor-league contract. The deal comes with an invite to spring training.

Thompson, 32, is the younger brother of Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson. He has been very much a journeyman to this point of his MLB career, playing for five different organizations since debuting in the bigs in 2015 – including three separate stints with the Chicago White Sox and two separate stints with the Dodgers. The Mets will be Thompson’s sixth MLB team.

While Thompson has been part of countless great viral moments, he still struggles to produce consistently at the MLB level, hitting a miserable .173 over 72 games last season. The Mets, who have been signing other famous family members this offseason, are hoping that Thompson will show them something in the spring to indicate that he can contribute.
