Taulia Tagovailoa Returns to Maryland for 2023 Season
Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

After a historic first two seasons at the helm, Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa announces his return to the Terps for the 2023 season. Tagovailoa, the younger brother of soon to be Pro Bowler Tua Tagovailoa, started his career at the University of Alabama with Tua. After the 2019 season, he transferred to the University of Maryland to reunite with the man who recruited him to Alabama, Head Coach Mike Locksley. Since taking over, Taulia, a 2022 2nd Team All-Big 10 selection, has been more prolific than any other passer in Maryland Football history. It’s even more impressive when you consider he’s only been the starter for just three seasons (Only 5 games played in 2020 due to Covid-19). The Terps are 17-11 in those last three seasons and boasting two consecutive bowl game victories. Tagovailoa has already re-written the record books, but with another year on par with the previous, he can potentially put these all time records out of reach for good.

Tagovailoa ranks first in Maryland History in:

Career Passing Yards. Single Season Passing Yards. Career Completions. Single Season Completions. Career Completion Percentage. Single Season Completion Percentage. Career Passing Touchdowns. Single Season Passing Touchdowns. Career 300 Yard Passing Games. Single Season 300 Yard Passing Games. Career Total Offense. The 2023 season projects to be another banner year for Tagovailoa and the Terps.
