Asdrubal Cabrera suspended four games for throwing batting gloves at umpire
Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Rangers infielder Asdrubal Cabrera has been hit with a suspension for throwing equipment onto the field in the direction of umpire Bill Miller.

Cabrera was ejected from Thursday’s game for arguing balls and strikes, and after he was tossed, he threw his batting gloves on the field in the direction of the umpire.

This was enough to warrant a four-game ban in the eyes of the league.

Getting hit on the ankle by a batting glove isn’t going to hurt anyone, but MLB wants to set a precedent that throwing items at an umpire won’t fly, no matter how harmless it would ultimately be. At the very least, it’s more reasonable than some other moves that umpires have made recently.
