Trey Mancini getting chance with new MLB team

Trey Mancini is officially getting another crack at it.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported Wednesday that the veteran slugger Mancini has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Miami Marlins. Mancini will also be getting an invite to Major League spring training.

The 31-year-old Mancini had a strong run with the Baltimore Orioles from 2016-22. His best season came in 2019 when he hit .291 with 35 home runs and 97 RBIs. But Mancini also produced one of the best stories in baseball with his courageous battle against stage 3 colon cancer. Mancini’s illness caused him to miss the entire 2020 season, but he returned to the Orioles cancer-free in 2021 and won AL Comeback Player of the Year that season.

In more recent years, Mancini won a World Series ring as a member of the Houston Astros in 2022 and then hit .234 over 79 games last season for the Chicago Cubs. Now he will be getting an opportunity with a Marlins team that may soon part ways with their top hitter.
