Kansas City Royals and Jordan Lyles Making Notorious Baseball History with Each Start

The Kansas City Royals and Jordan Lyles are falling deeper into dubious history each time he takes the mound.

Though Lyles pitched well on Friday night, the Royals lost to the Colorado Rockies, 7-2.

The Royals are 0-for-Jordan Lyles this season, having lost all 12 of his starts. Despite going 5 innings and giving up just 1 run, the Royals came up short in Lyles' start Friday. It's just the 7th time in MLB history a team lost a pitcher's first 12 starts of a season.

Lyles took the no-decision but it's still been an extremely rough year for the veteran, as evidenced by the stat above. He's 0-9 on the year with a 6.89 ERA. He's struck out 53 in 66.2 innings this year.

Despite the troubles of this season, Lyles has done something that most players never do: Have a 13-year career. He's pitched for the Astros, Rockies, Padres, Brewers, Pirates, Rangers and Orioles in addition to Kansas City.

Lifetime, he's 66-99 overall with a 5.19 ERA. He has three seasons of double-digit wins to his resume.

With the loss, the Royals are now 17-40, which is the second-worst record in baseball (behind only the Athletics). With the win, the Rockies are now 25-34 on the season.

The two teams will play again on Saturday afternoon in Kansas City. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET as Daniel Lynch pitches for the Royals and Austin Gomber goes for Colorado.
