MLB K-props for Tuesday 4/9: A nifty fade of Grey

We started the week off strong with a 2-1 mark in strikeout props, and we're looking to keep the momentum rolling. Let's check out our three favorite K props for Tuesday's MLB slate.

Corbin Burnes over 7.5 Ks (+120 DraftKings)

Orioles vs. Red Sox, 2:20 p.m. ET

Corbin Burnes is off to a hot start with his new team. The Baltimore Orioles ace has surrendered only three earned runs across two starts, and he's coming off a dominant performance against the Los Angeles Angels in which he gave up just one hit and struck out 11 batters. We could see a similar performance on Tuesday afternoon. Current Boston Red Sox hitters are batting just .143 against Burnes with an eye-popping 44.0 percent strikeout rate in 25 plate appearances, per Baseball Savant. The Red Sox also rank 25th in MLB in strikeout rate this season, so we love the plus-money over here.

Sonny Gray under 4.5 Ks (-134 FanDuel)

Phillies vs. Cardinals, 7:45 p.m. ET

Sonny Gray is a capable strikeout pitcher, but this bet is more about his expected workload than his swing-and-miss ability. The St. Louis Cardinals right-hander suffered a hamstring injury during spring training and hasn't pitched in more than a month, so he won't be full-go for his first start of the season. According to The Bryan Times, Gray will be on roughly a 65-pitch limit against the Philadelphia Phillies. Fewer pitches, fewer batters faced, fewer strikeout opportunities.

Cal Quantrill under 3.5 Ks (-145 DK)

Diamondbacks vs. Rockies, 8:40 p.m. ET

This pick has some extra juice, but we still think Cal Quantrill has a higher chance of going under this number than the odds suggest. The Colorado Rockies right-hander has been one of the worst swing-and-miss pitchers in MLB to start the season. His 12.9 percent whiff rate ranks 143rd out of 144 qualified starters, and his 9.3 percent strikeout rate ranks 141st. Quantrill made his season debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks and gave up five earned runs while managing just one strikeout in five innings of work. We're expecting a similar story in the rematch.
