Pablo Lopez fans 14 but Twins get shut out by Mets
USA TODAY Sports

The Twins wasted a pitching gem by Pablo Lopez and were shut out by the Mets 2-0 Sunday at Target Field.

Lopez struck out a career-high 14 batters in eight shutout innings. He allowed just two hits and didn't walk a batter. But Minnesota's offense managed just four hits against New York pitchers and went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

With the game scoreless in the ninth inning, Griffin Jax replaced Lopez and wound up giving up a leadoff double and then hit a batter. He got the next guy to strike out but then served up a two-run double to DJ Stewart, and that was the difference in the game.

The Twins won two of three against the Mets and now look forward to a three-game series at Target Field against the Tampa Bay Rays starting Monday.
