Rangers' Garcia costs himself by admiring big hit in Game 7

Adolis Garcia’s showboating ways cost him during Game 7 of the ALCS on Monday night.

Garcia was batting against Houston Astros starter Christian Javier in the top of the first inning. Javier had already allowed a solo home run to Corey Seager to put the Texas Rangers up 1-0 at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. Javier walked Evan Carter with one out to bring up Garcia.

Garcia drilled a high fastball to left field. The Rangers outfielder stood by the batter’s box and admired his hit. Garcia likely thought he had hit a home run, but the ball hit off the wall in left field. Garcia barely got a single out of a ball he hit off the wall.

Had he been running out of the box, he likely would have had a double.

Luckily for Texas, Garcia did his best to make up for his lack of hustle out of the box. He stole second base and then scored on a Mitch Garver single to make it 3-0.

Garcia then did what he does best and put one out of the park in the third for a solo home run to make it 4-0.

Then in the fourth, Garcia knocked in two more runs with a single to make it 8-2.

The non-running hard out of the box is a problem. But it’s one that is easily overlooked when the player responsible for it has six home runs and 19 RBI in the postseason.
