Rangers bolster bullpen with former All-Star relief pitcher

The Texas Rangers have bolstered their bullpen with their latest move.

The Rangers and relief pitcher David Robertson have agreed on a one-year deal for somewhere between $11 million and $12 million, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Thursday. The deal is pending a physical.

Right-handed reliever David Robertson and the Texas Rangers are in agreement on a one-year contract in the $11-12 million range, pending physical, sources tell ESPN. The World Series champs bulk up their bullpen with the veteran closer who has 175 career saves.

Robertson turns 39 in April, but he remains a strong relief pitcher.

Robertson went 6-6 with a 3.03 ERA over 62 games last season. He pitched well for the New York Mets but struggled after being dealt to the Miami Marlins prior to the 2023 trade deadline.

The Rangers will be Robertson’s eighth team. He’s best known for his nine seasons spent with the Yankees over two stints. He went 38-22 with a 2.75 ERA and 53 saves during his Yankees career and made the All-Star team in 2011. He also won a World Series with the Yankees in 2009.

Now Robertson will be contributing to a bullpen that lost another former Yankee this offseason — Aroldis Chapman.
