Report: Twins 'keeping tabs' on Noah Syndergaard, Michael Lorenzen

Will the Minnesota Twins add another starting pitcher before pitchers and catchers report to spring training on Valentine's Day?

According MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Twins are among a short list of teams "keeping tabs" on free agent starting pitchers, including right-handers Noah Syndergaard and Michael Lorenzen.

Lorenzen, 32, posted a 5:51 ERA in 11 games with the Phillies last season. His overall numbers don't pop off the page, but he did throw a no-hitter against the Nationals on Aug. 9. Before joining the Phillies he made 18 starts for Detroit, where he had 3.58 ERA in 105.2 innings.

Syndergaard, 31, is long-removed from his days as a superstar for the Mets. He pitched 88.2 innings in 18 starts between the Dodgers and Guardians in 2023. He posted a 6.50 ERA with just 56 strikeouts.

Minnesota will enter spring training with six pitchers presumably competing for five spots in the starting rotation: Pablo Lopez, Joe Ryan, Bailey Ober, Chris Paddack, Louie Varland and Anthony DeSclafani, with the latter two competing for a spot.
