Tigers OFs Derek Hill, Akil Baddoo head to IL after scary collision

Detroit Tigers outfielders Derek Hill and Akil Baddoo were both left shaken up Tuesday night following a scary collision that occurred as both were chasing a fly ball in the bottom of the eighth inning of the game at the Baltimore Orioles that Detroit won 9-4.

The Tigers confirmed ahead of Wednesday's showdown in Baltimore that both Hill and Baddoo are going on the injured list. Hill is on the 10-day IL with a left rib cage contusion, while Baddoo was added to the seven-day concussion IL.

In corresponding roster moves, Detroit recalled infielders Zach Short and Renato Nunez from Triple-A Toledo.

As Savannah McCann noted for the MLB website, Hill heroically completed the catch despite the crash before both he and Baddoo walked off the field under their own power.

"It was a nasty collision," Detroit manager A.J. Hinch said after the victory. "A ball hit probably in the perfect spot for both guys to be going full speed [and] both have the chance to catch it. You don't see it a lot at this level, [but] when you see [collisions], they're nasty, [especially with] two big, physical athletes."

The win propelled the Tigers to 55-60 on the season, but they still trail the first-place Chicago White Sox by 12.5 games in the American League Central division standings.
