Ryan Zimmerman opted out of the 2020 season due to concerns of the coronavirus. The year off has seemingly recharged his juices , and the Washington Nationals slugger is on a tear at the plate.

Sunday once again delivered, belting a bomb of a three-run home run off the Miami Marlins’ Trevor Rogers.

Zimmerman’s blast made up for a base running botch by Victor Robles that ended with the center fielder thrown out on a double steal attempt. After walking the red-hot Trea Turner, Zimmerman got a hold of a 96-mph fastball from Rogers.

Ryan Zimmerman now has four home runs on the season. It was a pivotal moment as the was the Nationals’ sole offense. However, it was all they needed as Max Scherzer struck out nine and allowed one run in the complete game 3-1 win.

It’s been a strong start to the 2021 season for the first-ever draft pick of the Washington Nationals. Through 17 games, he is hitting .319 with a on-base percentage of .347 and .596 slugging percentage.

Both his average and slugging are on pace to be career-highs. Not bad for the 36-year old in his 16th season.
