UFC fans are always going to have their opinions on the commentary team for the broadcasts. Whether it's Jon Anik replacing Mike Goldberg or the love/hate dynamic that sections of the fanbase have with other callers, embracing change or getting everyone on side is a very difficult task.

One of the only people to seemingly successfully do both those things has been Laura Sanko.

A former fighter herself, Sanko has managed to break down several barriers since debuting as the first female commentator of the modern era on Dana White's Contender Series in 2021.

Met with praise across the board, the MMA fanbase was happy to see Sanko take on a more prominent role over the years, making her UFC Fight Night broadcast debut earlier this year

This Saturday, she is set to make another jump up in a move that fans have been calling for ever since her stellar work on DWCS.

Sanko To Join Anik & Cormier For UFC 293

It could be argued that not since Jon Anik started to get his flowers as one of the best play-by-play commentators in the game years after his introduction has a commentator been this celebrated in MMA.

Laura Sanko, in many ways, has been the fans choice since her introduction to the UFC two years ago, and now she is finally set to get her shot at the big show.

This Saturday at UFC 293 in Sydney, Australia, Sanko will join PPV regulars Jon Anik and Daniel Cormier for the broadcast.

With veteran color commentator Joe Rogan not travelling for overseas events at this stage in his career, his slot has regularly been filled by the likes of Paul Felder and Michael Bisping.

On her social media, Sanko issued a message about this opportunity, describing this Saturday's event as a "dream come true."

"I’m honored to join the commentary team for UFC 293 alongside @Jon_Anik and @dc_mma. Dream come true. Before I was an mma analyst or competitor, I was a fan just like most of you reading this. Almost 20 years later, I’m here and excited to be a small part of connecting our incredible fanbase to the fighting art of these amazing athletes. See you in Sydney! #UFC293"
