This past weekend in the main event, Edson Barboza and Sodiq Yusuff went to war with each other at the UFC Apex.
With both men having moments where it looked like they were about to finish the fight, it was a back and forth battle that ended with Barboza getting his hand-raised.
Displaying his under-appreciated toughness, the Brazilian weathered an early storm before landing a signature wheel kick that completely changed the momentum of the fight.
After sharing blood, sweat and tears, both competitors showed what the sport is really about with a sign of respect for one another.
Sharing an image from the hospital, Yusuff posted on Instagram with the message that he will be back better than before, while Barboza spoke about their post-fight meeting in a recent interview.
"Much respect to @edsonbarbozajr a real OG in the game. I'll learn from this lesson and continue to do the work. Wish you all the best in your 'fight'"
In the days since the fight, Barboza spoke about his post-fight interaction with his opponent in the hospital.
During an interview with Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie, "Junior" said that, at the end of the day, getting back to their loved ones in good health is the most important thing in combat sports.
Though he is known for his vicious knockouts, Barboza is always happy to see his opponents back in good condition in the moments and days following a contest.
"It's fun, first I pray to him, you know, to nothing happen for him, you know, not get hurt and, yeah man, that's part of the game, part of the sport. Of course, I don't want to hurt him but I want to hurt him in the fight, but thank god he looks fine. I was fine too and I think the most important about this, go back home safe. That's the most important, back to our family."
Both men dished out a lot of damage in the main event, earning them both a fight of the night bonus for the incredible heart and toughness that they showed.
