Jorge Masvidal's father has been charged with second-degree attempted murder following an incident at the mixed martial arts fighter’s home.

Earlier, reports came in that there was a shooting at Masvidal’s Miami home. However, the reports could only confirm that the victim in the incident was shot in the upper body and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Masvidal was not home when the incident took place.

Furthermore, someone was taken into custody following the shooting; however, the identity of that individual was unknown. The suspect has been revealed, and it’s a close relative of Masvidal.

On Friday afternoon, ESPN was the first to report that Jorge Masvidal Fernandez, the father of the retired UFC superstar was the person arrested by police, and he is currently being charged with second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon. The outlet added that Fernandez, 67, allegedly shot Luis Lencioni at least twice, per a police report they obtained.

Jorge Masvidal has yet to officially comment on the arrest of his father. He is promoting a Friday night event for his Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA promotion in Sunrise, Florida.

Masvidal brought his outstanding career to an official close last month at UFC 287. At the event, the 38-year-old “Gamebred” suffered a unanimous-decision loss to top welterweight contender Gilbert Burns. The defeat was the fourth straight and the sixth in his last nine fights.

In the state of Florida, second-degree attempted murder is a felony and is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, 15 years of probation and a $10,000 fine.
