Josh Thomson: Dana White Faces Media Blackball Over Ties With Donald Trump
Aaron Meullion-USA TODAY Sports

An ex-UFC fighter, Josh Thomson, has accused the media of portraying Dana White negatively because of his political views.

The CEO of UFC has been vocal about his good relationship with former US President Donald Trump. Trump had asked White to speak at a Republican National Convention in 2016 when he was campaigning for president. White agreed, which may have been party because of Trump’s admiration for the UFC.

He has been seen at numerous UFC events. This included the Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov fight and the UFC 295 headlining fight between Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira. White even dismissed a UFC sponsor after they demanded that he remove a video from his social media showing support for Trump.

White On Trump

“I posted a video for Trump on my personal social media. One of our big sponsors called and said, ‘Take that down.’ You know what I said? Go f*** yourself. You vote for whoever you want to vote for, and I’ll vote for whoever I want to vote for. That’s how this works. I don’t even care who you’re voting for. It’s none of my f****** business. F*** you. Don’t ever f****** call me and tell me who to vote for,” White said

Thomson claims that has gotten White in the media’s bad books.

“I don’t know if it’s because of the Dana White support for Trump, the Dana White support for conservative values, I’m just let’s be honest, let’s just throw it all out there. I really believe that a lot of our MMA media has different political views than him and so they find any possible way they can to attack from for any type of thing especially now coming up in 2024 in the election season,” Thomson stated

Bellator’s Next Move

Elsewhere, White’s competitor, The PFL, has officially announced the Bellator Champions Series, consisting of eight events, the first of which is on March 22 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The announcement follows the PFL’s acquisition of Bellator in September last year.

The main event features a bout between Corey Anderson and Karl Moore for the vacant Light Heavyweight Title at Bellator 302. The belt became vacant after Vadim Nemkov relinquished the title by moving up to heavyweight.

In the co-main event, Leah McCourt faces Sinead Kavanagh in a featherweight bout. They have faced off on one occasion at Bellator 275. Kavanagh got the better of McCourt, beating her via a unanimous decision.
