Josh Thomson Makes Emotional Plea For Tony Ferguson To Have 'Reality Check' About UFC Future
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Josh Thomson feels Tony Ferguson needs to get real when it comes to acknowledging the state of his fighting career.

Ferguson has lost six straight fights, including most recently against Bobby Green at UFC 291 last month. His last win came against UFC Hall of Famer Donald Cerrone at UFC 238.

The 39-year-old Ferguson is arguably at a crossroads in his UFC career. He has fallen out of title contention and is desperately looking to snap his losing streak, although the damage accumulated over his last few fights is concerning.

Thomson, who lost to Ferguson by unanimous decision in July 2015, is now a top MMA analyst. He wants Ferguson to address the reality of what could be next in his fighting career.

Josh Thomson Advises Former UFC Rival Tony Ferguson

During a recent episode of Weighing In, Thomson addressed Ferguson's uncertain future in the UFC.

"When I lost two in a row, I had never lost two in a row," Thomson said. "I was like 'What the hell is going on?'... it baffled the s*** outta me. This guy has lost six in a row. This sport, like any sport, is about confidence. That confidence is what gets you to the next fight, makes you push a little harder when you're behind on the judges' cards.

"You need to have a reality check. You have to understand how to reel it in, because you're the only one in charge of your relationships with everyone...I've had those conversations with myself a lot, because you don't realize it. I become a little emotional, it's a little f***ed up, but I care about all these fighters."

Ferguson garnered concern after a pair of tweets earlier this week that hinted at his unhappiness. He claimed that since 2020, competing and fighting hasn't been fun, although he dismissed the notion that he could retire soon.

Ferguson's relationship with the UFC brass has also become strained in recent years. He's criticized UFC President Dana White and others for how fighters on the UFC roster are treated.

Despite their past bad blood, Thomson wants the best for Ferguson and others who approach crossroads in their fighting tenures. He's hopeful that Ferguson will find happiness soon, whether it's in or out of the cage.
