Josh Thomson recently provided an eyebrow-raising theory behind Kayla Harrison's UFC signing.

At UFC 300, the longtime PFL star will make her Octagon debut, and will drop from lightweight down to bantamweight for it. The UFC move has put a permanent end to the long-running rumors of her potentially facing Bellator Women's Featherweight Champion Cris Cyborg.

The highly anticipated bout has been put on ice with Harrison now preparing for a 135-pound battle with Holly Holm. While questions of weight-cutting safety concerning the powerful Harrison dropping down to bantamweight have been raised, "The Punk" has posited a major theory as to what Harrison's UFC future could hold.

'Amanda Nunes Is Coming Back' - Josh Thomson Suggests Potential 'Lioness' Return

On a recent edition of the WEIGHING IN podcast, Thomson suggested that the key reason Harrison has jumped ship to the UFC is for a potential showdown with Amanda Nunes.

The former UFC women's bantamweight and featherweight champion retired last year, but rumblings of a return down the road have become increasingly common of late.

For Thomson, a potential Nunes fight might have been to persuade Harrison to both move promotions and agree to a harsher weight cut.

"I can't knock her if she went for the more money," Thomson said. "It's hard for me to believe that she got paid more than she was going to get paid at the PFL. That being said, and not to get paid as much, but also to have to cut the extra ten pounds. So, I do believe that she will get paid more, if - and I think this is the only reason why she left - is that Amanda Nunes is coming back. Because that is the fight, there's no other fight."

Thomson went on to explain that, should Nunes return, Harrison might've opted to fight the women who famously KO'd Cyborg over fighting Cyborg herself, in the interest of securing her legacy in MMA.
